BARIATRIC ENDOSCOPY

Bariatric Endoscopy

Advanced weight loss techniques are made possible using endoscopic procedures. These minimally invasive procedures have reasonably quicker recovery times compared to open-and-shut surgical operations.

Bariatric Endoscopy

Dr. Michel Kahaleh is not only the Chief of Endoscopy at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital but also an expert on bariatric practices, having  co-authored multiple medical publications on obesity and other bariatric studies.

There are many procedures which fall under the realm of bariatric endoscopy, each of them will fall under one of four categories: Endoscopic Weight-Loss, Revisional Bariatric Surgery, Post-surgical Bariatric, Clinical Trial Bariatric Programs.

Endoscopic Weight-Loss

The core of bariatric endoscopy. Dr. Michel Kahaleh has continued to develop and study the use of endoscopic techniques to help people overcome obesity. The procedures listed, have been designed to be primary therapy options for patients who are severely obese, and as early intervention options for patients who are mildly obese.

All of the procedures are intended for both adolescents and adults, particularly those who do not qualify for bariatric surgery, for whatever reasons. Since bariatric endoscopic procedures are must less invasive than their bariatric surgery counterparts, they are preferred by patients since they’re innately safer and do not result in any permanent alterations to the patient's anatomy.

Each of the procedures have a high success track-record and represent some of the most significant advancements in the field of bariatric therapy and endoscopy.

Revisional Bariatric Endoscopy

A non-surgical, minimally invasive procedure that is utilized by Dr. Michel Kahaleh for patients who have experienced weight gain after undergoing bariatric surgery. The procedure is more advanced than the procedures listed under ‘Endoscopic Weight-Loss’. Only one procedure is utilized as a revisional bariatric operation, Transoral Gastric Outlet Reduction.

Post-Surgical Bariatric Treatments

It is possible for certain complications to occur when patients undergo bariatric surgery. Dr. Michel Kahaleh recommends bariatric endoscopy over open-and-shut bariatric surgery due to the better safety profile of endoscopy. Surgery can be taxing on the anatomy of the patient, and can leave certain internal organs weakened.

Dr. Michel Kahaleh is an expert on endoscopic procedures that focus on repairing and strengthening internal organs that have been affected or damaged by bariatric surgery. The main goal of these procedures are to allow the patient to advance with bariatric therapy, as these complications can halt a patient's progress and weight-loss.
